Images of Watson lying dead in a pool of blood had already crept in vivid detail into Sherlock's mind, so learning that she's alive brings a sharp exhale of relief. He sits down and buries his face in his hands for a moment, just breathing. Then he lifts his head, wiping his hands down his face.
"Did they let you talk to her?"
***
No, they did not, and Joan is not happy about it.
"They are both consultants with the NYPD," she points out to the two agents who are sitting with her in the nondescript room. "They can be trusted."
"Malcolm Bright is with the NYPD because the FBI doesn't trust him," one of the agents points out. "Someone leaked the identity and location of your contact."
"Malcolm wouldn't do that."
The agent lifted an eyebrow. "Ms. Watson, has it occurred to you that you may be biased? You are engaged to Mr. Bright, are you not?"
Joan rolls her eyes in frustration. "Yes. We're engaged. And Sherlock is my partner. Which is why neither of them would put me in danger. Let me talk to them."
"Later. Once the threat has been neutralized."
Joan rolls her eyes again. "Look. Your best bet to find the person who did this is to use Malcolm and Sherlock. You know they get results. And they'd probably be happy to help you...if you let me talk to them."
